Franki – changing the skyline of Luanda

Over the years Franki has done some landmark geotechnical work, providing interesting, innovative and often brilliant solutions for a vast range of differing geological conditions. But few are more special than its recent work in Luanda, Angola where it has completed several projects on 5-million year old relic beaches, where the sea has receded and where the building occurs at various levels on these ancient beach slopes. Each position brings with it its own unique geological challenges and appropriate solutions. This story is about two of these current projects.

JSE civil engineering group and leading geotechnical specialist, Esorfranki, continued to meet market expectations with significant growth in a tough economic environment for the year to February 2010 ("the year") realising the benefits of previous investment in expansion and diversification. Increases in both the top and bottom line exceeded 30% as the group overcame the impact of the global economic meltdown and local inclement weather conditions on its markets. During the year Esorfranki successfully transferred to the JSE Main Board to facilitate more appropriate comparison with like civil engineering construction groups.

 

In its initial phase, Esorfranki's recently launched 'Siza Wena' or 'Help You' initiative, sponsored 100 previously disadvantaged learners and recently qualified Civil Engineering professionals to attend the 'Engineering Planet Future' indaba hosted by the SA Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) at the CSIR International Convention Centre held in Pretoria from 16 to 18 March 2010.
